It?ll take more than a guest spot on House to redeem Dave Matthews frm years spent turning perfectly nice AC/DC-blasting teens into simpering, jam-loving, khaki-short-wearin? pain-in-the-ass frat boys, but we respect the fact that everybody has to start somewhere. House is the best medicine for an epidemic of crap reality TV. (Besides a public execution of Aaron Carter.) And the news that Matthews will be playing a piano prodigy with seizures on the next episode is intriguing. We know we will enjoy watching Hugh Laurie mocking Matthews. (Even if it IS make believe.) Still, we’re going to hold off on the negative reviews of Matthews? performance. The rumor is that he?s a decent actor. Also rumored? Khaki shorts can cause impotence. Do what you want with that information frat boys!
Anyway, we thought it would be fun to stack Matthews up against other musicians with TV guest appearances. We’re not talking about that time Conor Oberst played his protest song on Leno. We’re limiting the list to instances in which actual rock-types ACTED on dramas or sitcoms. Here are our favorites?what are yours?
- Johnny Cash in Columbo; he plays a murdering (but charming) country star.
- Sebastian Bach on the Gilmore Girls; he plays the aging guitarist in Lane Kim’s band.
- Adam Ant on Northern Exposure; he plays Brad Bonner, a rock singer who mistakes Cicely, Alaska for Sicily, Italy.
