Jewel thinks records cost too much. The sultry country star who is currently in between labels, has decided to take on the bloated record industry by recording a video for $5,000. (That’ll teach them). “I’m going to continue my career by trying to make records that are affordable,” the singer said. “I think records cost too much and have such a big burden that you can’t make it back as an artist or as a label. I just made a video for $5,000 and filmed it on Super 8 on my ranch.” If we understand Jewel language (and we think we do) she’s saying that money has ruined the record industry. Perhaps going totally label-less and Super 8-ing it on one’s ranch is a little extreme, but is there something to be said for the argument that artists should go back to basics?
