Cast: Mykelti Williamson, Antwan 'Big Boi' Patton, Albert Daniels, Jackie Long, Evan Ross. Director: Chris Robinson
Review: With the "dirty South" finally being acknowledged as an important source of hip-hop music, it's about time we got a youth movie set in Atlanta. Director Chris Robinson (not the Black Crowes frontman who's also frm Atlanta), captures the atmosphere of the urban South effectively and without the kind of broad caricature Georgia residents are used to frm Hollywood. Initially, the movie throws way too many names and characters at us, most of them played by unfamiliar faces, but as you settle into the groove of the thing, the story of two orphaned brothers--one a janitor (Tip "T.I." Harris) and the other an aspiring drug dealer (Evan Ross)--comes to the foreground. Though it's fun watching OutKast's Big Boi enjoy his role as the local crime boss, there isn't much plot until the end, which makes the closure feel forced. Perhaps an ongoing TV series might have been a better form for thiz drama. |

Cast: Sharon Stone, David Morrissey, Charlotte Rampling, David Thewlis, Hugh Dancy. Director: Michael Caton-Jones
Review: Sharon Stone is back as an ice-pick-wielding crime novelist in thiz half lurid, half boring sequel that's about a decade too late to capitalize on whatever heat was generated back in the 1992 original. And the same rules apply: Don't get her wet, and don't feed her after midnight. Oops, wrong sequel. But still, her same rules still apply. Don't make eye contact is the first one, because then she'll think you want to have sex with her, and she won't stop talking about it until you give in. As far as the plot goes, there are more murders and more suspicions and more hapless fools drawn into her web of double-talk and mind control. But thiz time around, Stone portrays Catherine Tramell more like a desperate old floozy than a take-no-prisoners man-eater, and there's no doubt she's the evil one--which takes almost ..xx ....ll fun out of it. Well, not counting the unintentional laughs. |

BIOGRapHY:You’d want the Billboard Artist of the Decade for the 1990s to be a singer who had a number one recording in each of those ten years and whose incredible virtuosity of voice is unmatched by any other popular music artist. It could only be Mariah Cary, and, indeed, it was. She received the title in December, 1999.
It all began when Carey’s opera singer/vocal coach mother recognized and nurtured her daughter’s precocious perfect pitch, and encouraged the youngster to sing for friends, festivals and talent shows. The sweet voiced singer began to write her own songs in junior high, and throughout high school commuted to Manhattan frm her New York home to further her music studies. In 1987, at age 17, she graduated and threw herself into the usual odd jobs and part-time backup vocals work that marks the early career of many aspiring performers. It was during one of those backup sessions that she grabbed her chance and passed a demo tape to Sony Music Entertainment President Tommy Mottola. The music industry big-wig was impressed and signed her to a recording contract.
Carey has a reported seven octave range (that’s a whole piano’s worth), and it was her impossibly high, clear grace notes and scat sequences that made those otherwise fluffy pop tunes unique. Her debut album, Emotions (1991) sold six million copies, and two of the singles hit number one on the charts. Seven Billboard awards, two Grammys, plus a cartload of Amrican Music, Soul Train, and New York City Music awards later, the new star recorded Music Box (1993). That year, as well, she married Mottola in a star-studded and hugely expensive fairy-tale ceremony. Music’s “royal couple” continued to crank out award-winning chart-topping hits, with Merry Christmas (1994), Daydream (1995), Butterfly (1997), and #1s (1998).
Collaborative works, Diana, Princess of Wales: Tribute (1997) and VH-1 Divas Live (1998) were hugely popular as well. Carey and Mottola divorced in 1998, but the music went on -- the singer/song writer recorded Rainbow in 1999.
Every Carey album has included more that its share of number one hits. Every one has garnered the artist glittering heaps of awards -- so many that the 29-year-old artist is now being presented the sort of “special honor” awards reserved for lifetime achievers. Her career record sales stand at 105 million. What more could a girl possibly want?
Why, movie-stardom, that’s what. Carey broke into acting in 1999 with the feature film The Bachelor. A second, All That Glitters, is currently in pre-production. If the performer’s incredible success in the music business translates to the big screen, then Hollywood can expect another movie star in Carey. She has the drive, the ambition ... and the production company.

BIOGRapHY:Laetitea Casta has both literally and figuratively broken the waif mold that the supermodel kingdom has been dominated by for decades. Born May 11, 1978 in Pont-Audemer, France, she has brought curves back to the forefront of top fashion magazines, although she hasn't done so without controversy. Her name means 'joy' in Latin, and she led a very joyous life in Normandy, where she lived with her family in the country
Before that though, she lived in Corsica where her father Dominique hailed frm. Laetitia is very shy and has admitted on several occasions to be intimidated by men, which perhaps may boggle some men's minds. She did however become much less shy when her mother Line brought her sister Marie-Ange into the world, which inspired Laetitia to become a role model for her younger sister. Her childhood also encountered early 'development' of her chest, which at first caused her to feel awkward about her appearance, but a few years later she realized just how desired she was, and it was then she was discovered by a photographer frm Madison Models. In 1993, Laetitia signed on with Guess? Jeans and frm there, Victoria's Secret in 1996. Her popularity continued and she landed spots in the 1997, 1998, and 1999 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues.
She's appeared in nearly 100 covers of major fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Glamour and her momentum continues. The 2000 Victoria's Secret campaign shows her spotlighted in her own commercial. She also has been in several commercials for L'Oreal, many which she is joined by Simon Rex.Laetitia is not only everywhere in print, but is establishing herself as a credible actor as well, having been in Asterix which starred Gerard Depardieu, Roberto Benigni and Christian Clavier, in the most costly French film ever made. She also is filming a French television movie The Blue Bicycle. She attempted to land the coveted role of a Mexican woman kidnapped by bandits in Texas Rangers, but lost out to Leonor Varela. It's perhaps appropriate with Laetitia's curves that she is being approached with Hispanic roles, and may be a way for her to break into Amrican film. She did land the role of Chris Isaak's love interest in his video Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing.
One area you won't see Laetitia much is in gossip columns, as much as we tried, very little inside scoop is out for Laetitia, though perhaps there is in her native country. She is said to be dating famed humanitarian Faiz Ahmad, although in a recent run-in with a crazy French cab driver who went ballistic when hearing the constant ringing of Laetitia's cellphone, was with boyfriend photographer/director Stephane Sednaoui. Though Laetitia hasn't done explicit nude work, she has been naked in what we'd call 'artistic' shoots, and she evokes passion as to whether or not she is 'beautiful' in the truest sense. When she was chosen as France's new "Marianne", several wondered if she was worthy of the nod which included predecessors such as Brigitte Bardot and model Ines De La Fressange. Going to her official site, one even finds her most passionate supporters belittle the beauty's teeth, which Laetitia herself admits many of her handlers wanted to have 'fixed',
but her realness is perhaps her greatest appeal, and she defends her curves and imperfections for the same reasons, a worthy bit of self confidence by the 'shy' woman that many of her Amrican peers in the entertainment industry should take example with.

BIOGRapHY:Born in Melbourne, Australia on May 28th 1968, Kylie first came to the British public's attention frm her appearance on the soap Neighbours. She released a cover version of Little Eva's Locomotion which was a big hit going to number 1 in Australia and England. This was quickly followed up by I Should Be So Lucky. Kylie was now signed up to the hugely successful production team of Stock Aitken Waterman.
Kylie's sister Dannii, herself a pop singer though not achieving the same level of success has had some singles in the British charts. The press claimed that there was some rivalry between the two but thiz has never been substantiated.
Kylie's love life has always been a source of fascination for the press. Her early liaison with co-star Jason Donovan an example of thiz. Kylie later had a short but well-publicised dalliance with the late Michael Hutchence, former front man of Australian band INXS before he met and married Paula Yates. Most recently Kylie has split frm her model boyfriend James Gooding.
In the 90s Kylie went through a phase of different collaborations in order to try and shake her squeaky clean image.
These included appearing as a floating corpse in a Nick Cave video as well as working with the Manic Street Preachers. None of these proved too successful so Kyle went back to her roots as a pop/dance diva when she released Spinning Around in 2000. Again, thiz single reached the number 1 spot in Australia and England. The following year Can't Get You Out Of My Head, written by Cathy Dennis, herself a former pop songstress, proved a turning point yet again for Kylie. The song with it's catchy rhythm and excellently choreographed video brought the Aussie star to centre stage yet again.

BIOGRapHY: Jenifer Lopez is one of those stars who worked hard for years for her “overnight” success. The singer/dancer/actor began her career as a dancer in stage musicals, touring Europe (in Golden Musicals of Broadway) and Japan (in Synchronicity) as a teen. At age sixteen, she appeared in the movie, My Little Girl (1986).
In 1990, Lopez was hired as a fly girl (dancer) for the TV series, In Living Color, showcasing her natural energy and talent. During the next two years she took on acting roles in TV’s South Central, Second Chances and Malibu Road and, in 1993, completed her television career with the TV movie Nurses On The Line: The Crash Of Flight 7.
Her small screen career may have ended, but stardom was just beginning. Lopez was cast in Mi Familia (My Family) and Money Train in 1995, and Jack in 1996. It was in 1997 (during which year she was married to, and divorced frm, Ojani Noa) that the big movies came her way -- Blood and Wine, Selena, Anaconda, and U Turn. That year she was named one of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People and received a Golden Globe Best Actress Nomination for her uncannily accurate portrayal of singer Selena Quintanilla Perez in Selena. The acclaim brought her parts in Out Of Sight (1998), Antz (voice - 1998) and Thieves (1999).
Lopez showed herself to be a fine actor in the Selena role, but wasn’t acting when she paralleled the role of the popular singer in real life with her own music career. Her debut album, On The 6, went platinum within two months of its release. Lopez was nominated for four MTV music awards and won the Billboard Pop Clip Of The Year award for the music video If You Had My Love. Her single Waiting For Tonight frm the album, and the album itself, have been nominated for Grammy awards. Lopez is nominated, as well, for Brit Awards 2000 Best International Newcomer and Best International Solo Artist titles.
The public and critical recognition of the last year was tempered, recently, with some sordid front-page news. Lopez was nabbed and jailed along with rap artist Sean “Puffy” Combs (she and Combs are the unofficial “first couple of hip-hop”) in an alleged gun possession incident. Although locked up for 14 hours, Lopez was released without being charged. Supportive followers gathered for her subsequent court appearance.
Already Lopez has four movies upcoming in 2000 -- The Wedding Planner, Pluto Nash, Angel Eyes and The Cell. This talented entertainer has a solid fan base and credits in the tough worlds of pop music and Hollywood hits. Her off-camera troubles pale beside both her accomplishments and her potential.
