Madona never thought she'd have to work so hard to justify her love.
The "Express Yourself" purveyor said in an interview with Meredith Vieira scheduled to air Wednesday and Thursday on the "Today" show that the public's reaction to her decision to adopt a 13-month-old Malawian child is a depressing indicator of the overall state of the world.
"With ..xx ....ll chaos, pain and suffering in the world, the fact that my adoption of a child…who was living in an orphanage, you know, was the number one story for a week in the world," Madona said. "To me, that says more about our inability to focus on the real problems. And our desires to have distractions and to be consumed with people's personal lives and gossip."
The Material Girl confirmed speculation several weeks ago that she and hubby Guy Ritchie were expanding their family tree. |

Her son's death is still being investigated, her attorney quit after a public falling-out, she's locked in a paternity battle over her newborn daughter and unless she comes up with an exorbitant amount of money in the very near future, she may get kicked out of her house.
Now, capping a rough month and a half, Anna Nichole Smith has been hospitalized.
The onetime Playboy Playmate is being treated for pneumonia at Nassau's Doctors Hospital, it was announced Tuesday.
"She has a slight case of pneumonia," her new Bahamian attorney, Wayne Munroe, told the Associated Press. "We've had a sudden change of weather here due to a cold snap."
The Bahama mama is being treated at the same private facility where both her daughter, Dannielynn, was born and her son, Daniel, died last month. |

The price isn't going to be quite as right come next June.
Bob Barker announced Tuesday that he will retire in 2007 after 35 years as host of The Price Is Right and 50 years on television.
"I will be 83 years old on December 12 and I've decided to retire while I'm still young," the famed daytime personality told the Associated Press. "I've gone on and on to thiz ancient age because I've enjoyed it. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm going to miss it."
While Barker has considered hanging it up for the past 10 years, he said, he's been having too much fun to walk away for good—but he figured reaching his golden anniversary was an "appropriate" time.
"I'm just reaching the age where the constant effort to be there and do the show physically is a lot for me," he said, sounding a bit like another TV icon who announced his intention to slow down after half a century on the air, "60 Minutes'" Mike Wallace. |

Martha Stewart Prepares a Third Course

Turns out you can't have too much of a good thing.
Proving the naysayers wrong, "The Martha Stewart Show" has been picked up for the 2007-08 season.
The domestic diva's syndicated cooking/decorating/home-improvement/gardening (you get the idea) how-to show is currently in its second season. NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution has purchased the show's third season for airing on NBC-owned and operated affiliates, as well as on various other corporate-owned stations.
"We are thrilled with Martha's strong return to daytime television and the overwhelmingly positive response we have received frm our local broadcast partners and viewers," NBC Universal exec Barry Wallach said. "Martha's fresh and lively approach to how-to instruction, mixed with the show's format, has been a winning combination frm the start." |

A source close to Pitt tells TMZ that Brad shot the photos, taken by artist Robert Wilson, in September 2005, but didn't have any idea at the time -- or anytime since -- that they would be used for the cover of VF. Pitt had agreed to be in Wilson's avant-garde video art project last year, and signed a legal release at the time for the still and video images taken in the shoot. But until the Vanity Fair cover emerged thiz week, Pitt didn't know that he would be the magazine's coverboy.
Reps for Vanity Fair tell TMZ, "In a letter dated October 5, 2006, and sent to Pitt care of Brillstein-Grey [Pitt's administrators], Wilson informed Pitt that a still image frm his portrait was going to be featured in the December art issue of Vanity Fair." A source says that Pitt never saw the letter.
Pitt's lawyers are said to be weighing their legal options. His rep gave the following statement to TMZ: "We are very disappointed that Vanity Fair has chosen to put an unauthorized cover on their magazine. It seriously makes me question their integrity and motives."
A rep for Vanity Fair tells TMZ: "Brad Pitt posed for a Robert Wilson video portrait, and in the photo release (signed by Pitt), agreed to allow Wilson to use the portrait or any images frm that sitting in connection with any publicity on Wilson's video project. Vanity Fair decided to do a story on Wilson's video portraits and obtained rights to the entire collection of photographs frm those sittings, which included Pitt's."
Oh well.... we have seen plenty of his body up until thiz point.... |
