First comes Borat, then comes Bruno, then comes the outrageous bidding war.
Sacha Baron Cohen has sparked a studio frenzy with the announcement that he will follow up his highly anticipated big-screen portrayal of the Jew-hating, incest-friendly, homophobic Borat with the equally brash, though slightly more palatable fashion reporter Bruno.
Here's hoping Austria has a better sense of humor than Kazakhstan. |

Reese Witherspoon is on her way frm Legally Blonde to legally single.
The Oscar winner has formally separated frm Ryan Phillippe after seven years of marriage, their publicists confirmed E! News.
"We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate," the rep said. "They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at thiz time." |

R.E.M., Van Halen Headed to Hall?

R.E.M., but not the Replacements. The Stooges, but not MC5. Van Halen, but not Motley Crue, Billy Idol or KISS.
Nominations were announced Monday for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2007. And as happens, some eligible acts made the ballot; most didn't.
The nominees are:
producers Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' funk group Chic ("Good Times");
British Invasion band the Dave Clark Five ("Glad All Over");
"White Lines" hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash and his outfit, the Furious Five;
college/indie-rock icons R.E.M.;
1960s girl-group/Phil Spector project The Ronettes ("Be My Baby");
punk poet Patti Smith ("Horses");
Iggy Pop's breakthrough act, the Stooges ("I Wanna Be Your Dog");
the late soul singer/rap innovator Joe Tex ("Hold What You've Got"); and
arena-rock gods Van Halen.
Of the nine, R.E.M., The Ronettes and Van Halen are the only first-time nominees. A maximum of five will be enshrined next March. |

The King of Pop is about to be crowned King of the World.
Micheal Jackson is set to receive the Diamond Award at the World Music Awards in London next month, honoring the pop star's having sold more than 100 million albums over the course of his career.
The congratulatory industry do will mark a rare public appearance for the now Ireland-dwelling pop star, who's set to pick up his award Nov. 15. |

Superman Reunites with Singer

Having just cleared a pretty tall building about $200 million high, Superman may be about to take off again.
Bryan Singer has signed to direct and produce a sequel to "Superman Returns," Warner Bros. confirmed Monday.
Singer is the only person in place on a project that is more a notion still than a project. The studio said there is no script, no budget and no targeted release date.
Not even "Superman Returns" cape-wearer Brandon Routh is a lock for a return engagement, although "Variety," which first reported the Singer signing, said Warners has an option on the actor for a sequel. |

New Judge Hears Anna Nicole Paternity Pleas

The western portion of the Anna Nichole Smith paternity saga has picked up where it left off.
A closed hearing was held Monday in connection with the lawsuit Larry Birkhead filed against Smith earlier thiz month, demanding that she return to California with baby daughter Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern to undergo DNA and drug tests.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert Schnider kept the latest proceedings under wraps to protect the little girl's privacy.
A little late, perhaps, but a valiant effort, nonetheless. Schnider replaces Commissioner Gretchen Taylor, who removed herself frm the case last week.
In his quest to prove that he's the father of Smith's baby, born Sept. 7 in the Bahamas, Birkhead is trying to get a court order that would force his ex-girlfriend to hightail it back to the States for testing. Schnider is expected to issue a ruling Nov. 17, according to Birkhead's L.A. attorney, Debra Opri. |

If Angelina Jolie drops $1.3 million in the forest, but Cambodian Vision in Development has nothing to do with it, did it really happen?
Facing accusations that she reneged on a promise to siphon that hefty sum into Cambodia over the next five years, the benevolent actress has set up an independent foundation to administer the funds, aptly named for the child she adopted frm the southeast Asian nation four years ago.
The Maddox Jolie Project will take over management duties that were originally doled out to the non-governmental Cambodian Vision in Development and the U.S.-based conservation group WildAid, organizations that Jolie cut ties with in December.
In response to Jolie terminating their contract, Mounh Sarath, the director of CVD, accused the Oscar winner of violating an agreement to provide his group with funds. |

"Arrested Development" star Jason Bateman and his wife, Amanda Anka, welcomed daughter Francesca Nora in Los Angeles Saturday, the actor's rep confirmed to E! News.
The baby girl was two weeks overdue and is the couple's first child together. None of the tot's vital statistics have been released. |

Reese Frees Up Court Schedule

Perhaps in anticipation of legal battles to come, Reese Witherspoon has resolved one case on her court docket.
According to court documents entered last week, the Oscar winner reached a settlement with Star magazine in her lawsuit over a June 26 story that claimed she was visibly pregnant with her third child and was wearing maternity clothing to hide her "baby bump."
Witherspoon denied she was expecting and sued the magazine for invasion of privacy, alleging that Star published a "fictional" story about her "in a callous effort to boost the tabloid's sagging sales."
The terms of the settlement between the actress and Star's parent company, Amrican Media Inc., were not revealed. |

Holly Marie Combs is really living the life of Riley these days.
The former "Charmed" star and husband David Donoho welcomed their second son Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles, People reported.
Riley Edward Donoho weighed in at 8 1/2 pounds and measured 19 inches long, according to the mag. He joins big brother Finley Arthur, 2 1/2.
"Everybody's great," Donoho told People. "Holly is tired, but she's fine. Riley came right out and as soon as he heard Holly's voice, he smiled. He has hair like Elvis—a full head of black hair. The doctor said he came out looking like a two-year-old." |
