Mob boss Primo Sparazza has taken out a hefty contract on Buddy "Aces" Israel--a sleazy magician who has agreed to turn state\'s evidence against the Vegas mob. The FBI, sensing a chance to use thiz small-time con to bring down big-target Sparazza, places Aces into protective custody-under the supervision of two agents dispatched to Aces\' Lake Tahoe hideout. When word of the price on Aces\' head spreads into the community of ex-cons and cons-to-be, it entices bounty hunters, thugs-for-hire, deadly vixens and double-crossing mobsters to join in the hunt. Vidal is leading his team of soldiers against resistance fighters--and he will do whatever is necessary to kill every last one of them. As Vidal bosses around the pregnant Carmen, a flying creature leads Ofelia through a garden labyrinth and into an underground cave ruled by Pan (HELLBOY\'s Doug Jones), who believes that Ofelia might be the lost princess of thiz strange yet magical place. To prove she is royalty, Ofelia must complete three tasks, each more difficult and terrifying than the previous one. Baquero gives a compelling performance as the terrorized Ofelia, who is befriended by Mercedes (Maribel Verdú), a woman who harbors some secrets of her own. Stellar production design, superb special effects, and a stirring score by Javier Navarrete add to the scary fun. Effie White, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson - three friends frm Chicago - are a promising singing trio called The Dreamettes. Accompanied by their songwriter C.C. White (Effie\'s brother), they travel to New York to compete in a talent show at the Apollo Theatre. Although the girls lose thiz first bid for fame, their talent attracts an ambitious administrator by the name of Curtis Taylor, Jr., who uses unscrupulous tactics to move the girls frm backup singers of superstar James "Thunder" Early to superstars of their own. Curtis reshapes the group to "crossover" frm R & B to the lucrative pop music scene. Lead singer Effie gets replaced by the more attractive Deena and is eventually dropped frm the trio. The group evolves into a more sophisticated group, The Dreams, with a lighter sound and chic look. They successfully attract a "whiter" audience and The Dreams rise to international stardom. The money, fame, and adulation, however, doesn\'t bring them happiness. |

While the Queen Mother (Sylvia Syms) and Prince Philip (James Cromwell) agree with her decision to remain at their holidah estate in Balmoral and not publicly acknowledge the tragedy, Tony Blair feels differently. Unfortunately, so do the English people. Making matters worse is the out-of-control media, which has begun to castigate the queen for her silence. In order to retain her grip on the country that she has served for so many years, she must swallow her pride and let the world know that she does, in fact, care.<br><br>With THE QUEEN, the consistently superior Frears (DIRTY PRETTY THINGS, DANGEROUS LIAISONS) strikes once again. Anna Nicole's Will Names Stern; Was Wedding in Works?

Where there's a will, there's an executor. And where there's Anna Nichole Smith's will, there's a trail of contention.
Smith's paternity attorney, Ron Rale, appeared on Larry King Live Monday, saying that Smith had indeed written a will and that both he and Howard K. Stern were named as its executors.
"I'll represent right now that I will be working in a capacity on behalf of her estate...there is a will that was executed by Anna Nicole," he said. "Just to be specific, Howard [K.] Stern is named first as executor. And I'm the second executor."
"I have known that there's a will...I've seen the will."
Rale did not disclose what was contained within the document, but did say that he was still uncertain as to how her estate, and the potential $474 million she stands to inherit frm her oil tycoon ex-husband J. Howard Marshall II, would be allocated. |

Idol's Golden Tickets Not Guaranteed

On "Amrican Idol," the so-called golden ticket is a singer's passport to the Hollywood round, and possibly beyond.
Except when it's not.
A 23-year-old Texas man seen receiving one of those yellow-hued pieces of paper on last week's San Antonio audition episode says he was disinvited frm the competition days before leaving for Hollywood and "Idol's" next round.
Or as Akron Watson's MySpace page puts it: "A golden ticket, but no plane ticket!!!"
According to one "Idol" expert, Watson is one of a handful of pop-star hopefuls who get cut frm the top-rated show each season, usually between the first and second rounds, for reasons that the show and typically the hopeful don't talk about.
"Mostly they don't show them on the show," says Joe "Reality" Blackmon, editor-in-chief of the Website Reality TV Magazine. "You [just] hear the chatter of them going to alternate status."

A bum knee is going to keep Judi Dench on her bum come Oscar time.
The Best Actress nominee for "Notes on a Scandal" has said that she will miss the 79th Annual Academy Awards on Feb. 25 because she's due to have surgery on her injured knee.
"The thing about the Oscars, it's strange because in the theater you would say 'Break a leg,'" Dench, 72, told reporters Monday at the Berlin Film Festival. "I can't because I'm to have a knee operation. I can't go to the awards. I'm going to have my leg broken and put back together.
"I will watch and cheer frm my bed."
Dench has advised any bettors out there to put their pounds on Mirren, who has literally been "The Queen" bee of awards season so far, scooping up honors right and left, including a lead actress BAFTA thiz outing. |

While Jack Bauer is still pursuing the baddies who detonated a nuclear bomb at the end of the season premiere of "24" a few weeks ago, 20th Century Fox already has a handle on its own leg of the investigation.
The studio said Friday that video-sharing Websites YouTube and LiveDigital have complied with a subpoena demanding the identity of the two users who allegedly posted the Emmy-winning drama series' four-hour season opener, in its entirety, days before its airdate and nearly simultaneous DVD release.
"We intend to use the information provided to pursue all available legal remedies against those who infringed our copyrights," 20th Century media relations VP Chris Alexander said in a statement to E! Online.
"As we have long maintained, Fox is committed to vigorously protecting our content frm illegal Internet distribution and other forms of piracy." |

Fred Goldman: Show Me the O.J. Money

The hunt for O.J.'s assets is on.
Attorneys for Fred Goldman, father of murder victim Ron Goldman, subpoenaed three Hollywood industry groups Monday in an attempt to follow a theoretical money trail that the Goldmans are hoping might help them collect on the $33.5 million wrongful death judgment they and the family of Nicole Brown Simpson were awarded in 1997.
Reuters reported that Goldman's legal camp has targeted the Screen Actors Guild, the Producers Guild of Amrica and the Amrican Federation of Television & Radio Artists to investigate how much O.J. Simpson has been paid over the years for TV appearances and his roles in various films, including the "Naked Gun" trilogy.
"There is a rational belief that these monies have either been diverted, assigned or payable to someone other than Simpson," Goldman lawyer David Cook told the wire service. |

Coroner: Lethal Mix of Meds Killed Levert

An answer has been found to the question surrounding Gerald Levert's untimely death.
The R&B star, who passed away at age 40 on Nov. 10 at his Cleveland home, died frm an accidental overdose of prescription and over-the-counter medications, according to a toxicology report released last week by the Cuyahoga constituency Coroner's Office, which performed Levert's autopsy.
The drugs found in Levert's system included the pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet and Darvocet, the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and two non-prescription antihistamines, Geauga constituency Coroner Kevin Chartrand, who obtained the report Thursday, said.
Levert, who was the son of O'Jays frontman Eddie Levert and lead singer of the trio LeVert, died of accidental acute intoxication caused by the lethal combination of pills, which likely stopped Levert's breathing, Chartrand said. |
